Mines and Petroleum Regulations Amendment (Geocentric Datum) Regulations 2025
Made by the Governor in Executive Council.
These regulations come into operation as follows —
(a)Part 1 — on the day on which these regulations are published on the WA legislation website;
(b)the rest of the regulations — on the day after that day.
Part 2 — Mining Regulations 1981 amended
This Part amends the Mining Regulations 1981.
In regulation 66(d) delete “1994” and insert:

(2)After regulation 89A(4) insert:
(5)This regulation does not have effect on or after the day on which the Mines and Petroleum Regulations Amendment (Geocentric Datum) Regulations 2025 regulations 5(2) and 6 come into operation.

After regulation 89A insert:

Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 means the Reference Frame defined in the National Measurement (Recognized‑Value Standard of Measurement of Position) Determination 2017 (Cth) clause 4.
(2)The Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 is prescribed for the purposes referred to in section 9B(1).
In the heading to Schedule 3 after “Australia” insert:

In Schedule 3 clause 1(1) in the definition of prescribed land after “Australia” insert:
1994
In Schedule 3 clause 6(1) delete “Australia.” and insert:
Australia 1994.
Part 3 — Offshore Minerals Regulations 2010 amended
This Part amends the Offshore Minerals Regulations 2010.
(1)In regulation 4(1) in the definition of GDA delete “Australia;” and insert:
Australia 1994;
(2)After regulation 4(4) insert:
(5)This regulation does not have effect on or after the day on which the Mines and Petroleum Regulations Amendment (Geocentric Datum) Regulations 2025 regulations 11(2) and 12 come into operation.

After regulation 4 insert:
4A.Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 currently prescribed (Act s. 10)

Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 means the Reference Frame defined in the National Measurement (Recognized‑Value Standard of Measurement of Position) Determination 2017 (Cth) clause 4.
(2)The Geocentric Datum of Australia 2020 is prescribed for the purposes referred to in section 10(1).
Part 4 — Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Regulations 1987 amended
This Part amends the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Regulations 1987.
In regulation 1A in the definition of GDA after “Australia” insert:

After regulation 9(3) insert:
(4)This regulation does not have effect on or after the day on which the Mines and Petroleum Regulations Amendment (Geocentric Datum) Regulations 2025 regulations 15 and 16 come into operation.

Delete regulation 10 and insert:
