Road Traffic Code Amendment Regulations (No. 2) 2026
Made by the Governor in Executive Council.
These regulations come into operation as follows —
(a)regulations 1 and 2 — on the day on which these regulations are published on the WA legislation website;
(b)the rest of the regulations — on the day after that day.
These regulations amend the Road Traffic Code 2000.
In regulation 21(3A) after “rider of a bicycle” insert:
or electric rideable device
In regulation 26(3A) after “rider of a bicycle” insert:
or electric rideable device
(1)Delete regulation 36(3) and insert:
(3)A rider of a bicycle or electric rideable device must give a signal by fully extending their left arm and hand horizontally beyond the left side of the vehicle and approximately at a right angle to the centre line of the vehicle if —
(a)the rider is required to give a signal of intention to turn left; and
(b)the vehicle is not equipped with an appropriate flashing light signalling device or illuminated indicator in working order.
Modified penalty: 2PU
(2)After regulation 36(6) insert:
(6A)Subregulations (2), (3) and (5) do not apply to the rider of a bicycle or electric rideable device if it would be unsafe, in the circumstances, for the rider to give the required hand signal.
After regulation 112(2) insert:
(3)Subregulation (1) does not apply to a person who is riding a bicycle or an electric rideable device that is approaching, riding in, or leaving a roundabout.
(1)Delete regulation 210B(1) and insert:
(1)A person must not ride an electric rideable device on a carriageway with a speed limit exceeding 50 km/h.
Modified penalty:
(a)if the person is riding on a carriageway with a speed limit exceeding 70 km/h — 10 PU
(b)in any other case — 2 PU
(2)Delete regulation 210B(2).
